‘Morning Joe' Co-hosts Hoist Pair of Cold Ones in Elaborate Ode to Milwaukee
MSNBC trolls Trump in historic fashion after he calls city "horrible"
In what surely will be recorded as one of the great moments of morning television, MSNBC’s Morning Joe both paid tribute to the great city of Milwaukee, Wis., and trolled Donald Trump in historic fashion.
The Friday edition of Morning Joe opened with the theme song of the classic ’70s sitcom, Laverne & Shirley, about two women who work at a Milwaukee brewery.
That’s interspersed with great moments of Milwaukee sports teams as well as the scene from the movie Wayne’s World in which shock rocker Alice Cooper explaining the proper pronunciation of “Milwaukee,” and that the name comes from the indigenous Algonquin for “the good land.”
Finally, Morning Joe’s cameras settle on co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski on-set as the pair each very loudly crack open their own Milwaukee’s Best beer and toast to Milwaukee.
“Milwaukee’s wonderful. Just drink it down, my friend,” Scarborough cracks.
In a split screen, co-host Willie Geist cannot contain his laughter before declaring, “Opening the show with a pair of tall boys of The Beast is one of the great moves in the history of Morning Joe.”
As the hosts explained, the elaborate schtick was in response to news that broke the day before in which presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump called Milwaukee a “horrible city” during a closed-door meeting with other Republicans just weeks before Republicans are to gather in the city to officially nominate the former president for a rematch against President Biden.
