Joe Manchin, of West Virginia, and Kirsten Sinema, of Arizona, for more than a year now been taking fire as the conservative, corporate senators in the Democrats' midst.
However, now it seems more right-wingers have been lurking within the Senate Democratic majority.
Sen Maggie Hassan, of New Hampshire, outed herself — so to speak — Tuesday by posting on social media about the trip she's taken to the southern border of the United States.
And the first-term senator sounds nearly Trumpian in her enthusiasm for border security
“I just spent two days at our southern border, and it’s clear we need to make more investments in personnel, technology, and physical infrastructure to secure our border,” Hassan tweeted, along with a video of her speaking to camera in front of what looks like a section of the wall Donald Trump demanded be built along the length of the border.
Hassan's stunt at the border isn't really new for this former governor of the Granite State, according to author and journalist Eric Michael Garcia.
“Not really surprising Hassan went to the border and cut this video. As I explained last week, New Hampshire is overwhelmingly white and she has always been virulently anti-immigrant and refugee back to her time as governor,” he commented.
Such anti-immigrant tactics aren't at all new to Hassan, Garcia added in a separate tweet.
She was among just eight Senate Democrats to oppose offering COVID relief to undocumented immigrants.
Hassan seems a lock to win reelection in November as her only viable opponent — Republican Gov Chris Sununu — refused to make the race.
Hassan now will face one from among several second-tier hopefuls seeking the Republican nomination to oppose her.
