NJ Democrat Wants to Drug Test Elon Musk
Billionaire’s substance use reportedly has been an issue
New Jersey Democrat Mikey Sherrill wants the world’s richest man to undergo a drug test.
Sherrill, a congresswoman who is running in the Garden State’s Democratic primary election for governor, wants billionaire Elon Musk to be tested for substances he may be using.
Musk, who helped bankroll Donald Trump’s 2024 winning bid for the White House, has been a top advisor to Trump and earlier this year was busy dismantling a number of key functions of the federal government, leading a team known as the “Department of Government Efficiency,” or DOGE.
More recently, it was announced that Musk would be stepping back from his federal role after a huge public outcry which has translated into a financial slump for his electric vehicle company, Tesla.
But Musk’s drug use has been an issue that has dogged him (paywall) for some time. He has admitted to using ketamine.
Sherrill last month introduced legislation to mandate a drug test for Musk as part of his involvement in the federal government.
She addressed the matter this week in an appearance on CNN.
“Well, here in New Jersey, people know I have been one of the strongest people in fighting back against Elon Musk,” she said. “I have legislation suggesting we should drug test him, which I believe we should, if he is going to be in some of these positions of trust.
“I’m glad to see he seems to be leaving our government. I’ve had some probing questions about what he’s doing in the Pentagon, what DOGE is doing in the Pentagon. I’ve flagged my concerns about the air traffic control and been very directive on what we need to do to combat some of the undermining of our air traffic control at Newark [Airport],” she added, referring to major problems recently at that airport. “And the safety concerns I have at Newark, some of which were made worse by DOGE.
“So I have been very opposed to what we see Elon Musk doing. And certainly, I received support from people who are employees of SpaceX,” Sherrill added, referring to another of Musk’s companies. “I’ve given that back to a local food bank, because I want to make sure that people here know exactly who I serve, and that’s the people of New Jersey.”
