‘Not A Good Sign for the Defense’: Note Bodes Poorly for Trump, Lawyer Says
Conway also suggests Friday verdict in NY case
The note that the jury sent to the judge in Donald Trump’s criminal hush-money and election interference case in New York is bad news for the former president.
That’s according to a well-known conservative attorney who has been one of Trump’s fiercest critics.
A jury currently mulling the fate of Trump, who stands accused of falsifying business records to hide a payment to keep quiet a porn star who has alleged an extramarital affair with the Republican.
Trump, who is said to have made the payment to hide the affair from voters ahead of the 2016 presidential election, currently is making his third run for the White House as the presumptive Republican nominee.
The jury in Trump’s criminal case has begun deliberations, and sent Judge Juan Merchan a note Wednesday just before 3 pm ET.
The note made requests to review several pieces of testimony from the trial, including that of Trump friend and former head of The National Enquirer, David Pecker. Also testimony from former Trump attorney-turned-critic Michael Cohen.
Those requests don’t bode well for Trump’s defense, according to George Conway, who has been visiting the New York courthouse and posting about the trial on social media.
“Not a good sign for the defense,” he captioned a repost of reporter Kyle Cheney’s news of the requests from the jury.
The opinion by Conway — who used to be married to Trump White House adviser Kellyanne Conway — reflects Cheney’s own analysis.
“Apply all the caveats here, but first instinct is this is not welcome news for Trump,” Cheney posted. “Prosceutors [sic] spent a lot of their lengthy close focusing on value of Pecker's testimony. This is the roadmap they asked jurors to follow.”
When someone else commented on Conway’s post about timing on a verdict, Conway added, “Friday is the best bet.”
