Political Right Wants To Turn January 6 Rioters Into 'Political Prisoners'
Unsurprisingly, you can find Marjorie Taylor Greene in the midst of this outrage
The latest turn that the political right has taken in whitewashing the deadly Capitol insurrection is trying to depict the rioters and violent backers of Donald Trump who stormed the US Capitol Building on January 6 as persecuted “political prisoners.”
Meanwhile, the hundreds of Americans who have been apprehended and charged in connection with the worst insurrection on US soil since the Civil War have begun pleading guilty and some are getting felony prison terms.
While the police officers who recently testified before Congress detailing their service trying to defend Congress as Trump's violent extremists attempted to overturn the lawful and legitimate certification of Joe Biden's election as president of the United States have verified that the attackers were armed and dangerous, most congressional Republicans have been busy trying to downplay the seriousness of what happened that day at the Capitol Building.
That now including portraying the brutal attackers as mere “political prisoners” somehow living under the boot of the Biden administration.
And among the leaders of this gaslighting campaign is Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga), who seems to make a habit of landing herself in the most outlandish of outrages.
Greene, who among her misdeeds, has called, on social media, for the execution of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and claimed that Jewish-owned lasers in outer space are responsible for the wildfires in California.
Last month, she visited the Otay Mesa Detention facility where undocumented immigrants caught trying to enter the United States are being held.
“Illegal aliens are treated better and provided more legal resources, outdoor rec time, video calls to family than J6 political prisoners,” Greene tweeted. “American citizens are being treated far worse than criminal illegals awaiting trial.”
However, despite the sense of earnestness she tries to convey with her tweet streams on the so-called mistreatment which the detained January 6 rioters she is attempting to convince is happening, Greene usually finds herself utterly mocked and condemned by others aghast at her efforts to rewrite history.
A Twitter user going by the handle “MT’s Llama” replied: “Why don't you care about the conditions of prisoners in your district?”
Another user calling themselves “Andrea,” responded: “Would be great if you’d equally care about the many people this happens to EVERY DAY all across the country. Just more performative disgusting antics.”
To which yet a third user said, “She's got to stick up for her partners in crime,” in apparent reference to suspicions that right-wing members of Congress aided and abetted the rioters with planning and logistics in the days leading up to the insurrection.
