Republican Senator Blames Democrats for Wars in the Middle East, Ukraine
Tuberville has been blocking hundreds of military promotions
A Republican senator blocking promotions for hundreds of US military officers now is baselessly blaming President Biden and other Democrats for the wars in the Middle East and Ukraine.
Sen Tommy Tuberville, of Alabama, has for months been using Senate rules to block hundreds of promotions for US military officers over the unrelated question of the Biden administration's policies on abortion access for the troops.
That action by Tuberville has drawn fire, including from fellow Republicans.
However, now the first-term lawmaker is trying, falsely, to lay blame on Biden and the Democrats for conflict in the Middle East and Ukraine.
“Well, first of all, they need to be worried about what’s going on in Ukraine, the Middle East, the wars that their side — the Democrats, and Joe Biden — have created,” Tuberville said in an interview with right-wing media.
In truth, the current conflict in the Middle East broke out after Hamas launched attacks against Israel October 7 and has left thousands — including Israeli and Palestinian civilians — dead.
The war in Ukraine began more than 18 months ago when Russian leader Vladimir Putin ordered the full-scale and unprovoked invasion of its democratic neighbor.
Tuberville also opposes efforts to send crucial humanitarian aid to the 2.2 million civilians in Gaza, half of whom are children. He wants that funding redirected towards Israeli defense.
