Republicans Become The Party of Tit-for-Tat
“McCarthy is targeting me for 1 reason: I’m effective," Swalwell tweets
As if QAnon, Donald Trump's “Big Lie,” and a riot against democracy weren't bad enough, this is what the Republican Party has devolved into.
It's become the party of, “Nanny, nanny boo boo, what doesn't stick to me sticks to you.”
That's what happens when top Republicans come out to basically announce that the GOP now stands for baseless revenge and tit-for-tat score-settling.
It began last week when Republican Sen Ted Cruz, of Texas, declared that there would be “enormous pressure” on Republicans next year to impeach President Biden, “whether it's justified or not.”
This, of course, would be in retaliation for Donald Trump having been impeached not once, but twice.
Of course, at the time, White House press secretary Jen Psaki did a masterful job at swatting away the threat from Cruz.
“Our reaction is: Maybe Senator Cruz could work with us on getting something done on comprehensive immigration reform, and putting in place measures that will help to make sure that smart security is what we see at the border [and] taking a more-humane approach to the border instead of name-calling, accusation-calling and making predictions of the future.”
However, Republicans are back at it, this time threatening that if they win the House majority in the midterm elections later this year, they will move to strip Democrats of their committee assignments.
This latest threat is apparently in retaliation for House Democrats earlier this year stripping Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga) of her committee assignments because of social media posts advocating violence and assassination of several prominent Democratic politicians, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
Rep Eric Swalwell (D-Calif) is among those called out by name, by House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif).
“McCarthy is targeting me for 1 reason: I’m effective. He wants to carry water (& sort Starbursts) for Trump’s Big Lie & not be called out. He’s projecting onto me b/c he’s incapable of facing down the Ku Klux Klan elements in his caucus. If he thinks he’s silencing me, he’s not,” Swalwell tweeted.
