Republicans Open Inquiry Into Bud Light's Partnership with Trans Influencer
Right-wingers have been outraged over deal with Dylan Mulvaney
Two Republican senators want to open an “investigation” into the recent promotional partnership between Anheuser-Busch's Bud Light brand and social media influencer Dylan Mulvaney.
The ire from Sens Ted Cruz, of Texas, and Marsha Blackburn, of Tennessee, is just the latest outrage from those on the political right in reaction to a recent collaboration between influencer Dylan Mulvaney, a transgender woman, and the light beer brand.
Cruz and Blackburn allege that, by associating with Mulvaney, Anheuser-Busch was in fact marketing to underage drinkers.
However, the political right has been outraged for months over the brand's partnership with a trans woman, going so far as to shoot at cans of the brew.
In their letter to Brendan Whitworth, CEO of Anheuser-Busch and chairman of the industry group the Beer Institute, Cruz and Blackburn called on the Beer Institute to investigate whether Anheuser-Busch’s partnership with Mulvaney violates the Beer Institute’s guidelines prohibiting marketing to underage individuals.
Further, the lawmakers said that they had opened their own investigation, although their authority to carry on a congressional investigation is limited because the pair are in the minority party in the Senate.
The letter also calls on Anheuser-Busch to sever its relationship with Mulvaney.
The senators further claim that Mulvaney’s audience skews predominantly towards young people below the drinking age.
The senators also request a number of documents from both Anheuser-Busch related to the partnership including communications, scripts of social media content, solicitations for content, and documents relating to Anheuser-Busch’s corporate policy for advertising on social media platforms.
