‘Rigged!’: Lara Trump Is Already Claiming Debates Her Father-in-Law Agreed to Are Fixed
Presidential candidates will face off twice this year
An extraordinary agreement to hold two presidential debates this year isn't even 24 hours old, but Lara Trump is already claiming that they’re “rigged.”
Trump, who co-chairs the Republican National Committee and whose father-in-law is Donald Trump, made the baseless accusation Wednesday on Fox News even as news was breaking that the campaigns of Trump and President Biden had reached agreement for a pair of debates between the two men.
The first will be on June 27 hosted by CNN and the second on Sept. 10 hosted by ABC — setting the stage for their first presidential face-off to play out in just over a month.
Trump and Biden also debated twice when they first ran against each other in 2020.
But despite the Trump campaign having just agreed to these planned encounters, Lara Trump took a page from the family playbook and has begun claiming — without evidence — that the debates will be skewed somehow in Biden's favor.
Donald Trump has long employed a variety of proven falsehoods and baseless accusations in his rhetoric.
“We need to be very clear about the direction we want this country to go. We need to hear from Donald Trump about his vision for the future of this country, how he will give this country back to the people, how he will fix the mess Joe Biden has put us in,” Lara Trump said. “And Joe Biden has a lot of questions to answer. So we want to see more of them on a stage, not less.
“And you are right, it’s rigged so heavily in Joe Biden’s favor, but everything always is. You've got Hollywood against Donald Trump. You've got the music industry against Donald Trump, mainstream media. Despite that, and even the judicial system at this point, he is beating Joe Biden in every poll out there,” she added, despite some polls giving Biden the advantage. “It's amazing to see. So if Joe Biden shows up on June 27 and doesn't come up with an excuse — like he has to wash his hair or something — I have full confidence that Donald Trump will outperform him."
