Rubio: There Will Now Be ‘Tremendous Pressure’ on Next Republican President to Charge Biden
Republican pushes for criminal action against the current president without any charges
A prominent Republican senator has issued a veiled threat of baseless retribution against President Biden and his family as a result of the federal indictment of Biden's predecessor in the Oval Office.
The next Republican president will be under “tremendous pressure” to criminally charge Biden and members of his family apparently in retaliation for the federal indictment of Donald Trump for his handling of classified and sensitive federal documents after he left office, according to Sen Marco Rubio, of Florida.
This is despite the fact that there are no credible allegations of wrongdoing against the president, let alone any impending charges.
However, many Republicans and others on the political right have been defending Trump since the former president appeared in a Miami, Fla, courtroom to face more than 30 felony counts related to his decision to take boxes of federal documents that rightfully belong to the government to his Mar-a-Lago estate — and then obstruct federal efforts to retrieve those documents, which include some of the nation's most important military and nuclear secrets.
Many Republicans have been trying to find opportunities to pin some kind of wrongdoing on Biden, but continue to come up empty.
But that hasn't stopped those, like Rubio, from playing elaborate games of “whataboutism" with Biden and other Democrats.
“The next Republican president is going to be under tremendous pressure to bring charges and indict Joe Biden, his family, his crackhead son, whoever,” Rubio said, referring to Biden's son, Hunter, a recovering addict. “The pressure will be extraordinary.”
The top Republican on the Senate Intelligence Committee, Rubio went on with a nearly unhinged rant full of assorted right-wing talking points.
“We are decadent and we're in decline because we thought we could do anything we wanted with our economy, we could send our jobs and factories overseas, break our politics, break our culture, break our society, we don’t need parents, we don't need neighborhood, we don't need family anymore, all these crazy ideas, and now reality is catching up and it's hurting us badly,” said Rubio, who unsuccessfully ran against Trump for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016. “And today is, frankly, just a symptom of a much bigger problem which you talk about here, and that is, we no longer live in that world.
“We need to understand America is being challenged in the way it has not been challenged in 30 or 40 years and we either respond or we're going to live in a world in which the most powerful and stable country in the world will be China, a communist dictatorship, not the United States,” he added.
