Shadowing Sinema: Protesters Continue To Trail Recalcitrant Senator
Arizona Democrat faced further encounters with at the airport, on even on her flight
Usually when we say something's “gone viral,” we’re referring to an online video or a bit of something on social media.
In this case, it appears to be a movement to trail Sen Kyrsten Sinema, the Arizona Democrat who has emerged in the nation’s capital to hold up her own party's domestic agenda — currently imperiling approval of the $3.5 trillion Build Back Better Act.
And it's become increasingly obvious that the constituents who worked to elect her in 2018 as Arizona's first Democratic senator in more than 20 years have lost their patience.
Members of the Arizona organization LUCHA made waves nationally when they followed Sinema into the women's restroom at Arizona State University so as to confront her.
Others appear to have picked up the idea.
Protesters met Sinema at a DC-area airport, but one brave Arizona woman cornered her at her seat on their flight.
Both encounters were recorded by video.
"Senator, hello, how are you? You're good. Sorry, I'm just — I don't know if you remember me. I just want to know if you can commit, as my senator, if you can commit to passing a reconciliation that could provide a pathway to citizenship for immigrants?” the woman on the flight asked. “Because I've been waiting for this for too long. I just need to know if you can commit to passing a budget reconciliation that would include immigration and citizenship for people to be protected, like me and many others. Can you commit to that, senator? I'm just asking you a simple question.”
Sinema refused to respond and instead chose to ignore her constituent and return to her reading.
