‘She Will Not Be A Guest’: Ronna McDaniel’s Troubles at NBC Deepen on ‘Morning Joe’
Former RNC chair not welcome on MSNBC's morning program
While their bosses roll out the red carpet for her, the rank-and-file of NBC News continue to very publicly tell Ronna McDaniel she is not welcome on their network.
The firestorm involves the decision by NBC News executives to hire the former chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC) as a paid political analyst.
During her nearly eight years as head of the RNC, McDaniel defended Donald Trump’s false claims about the 2020 presidential election, baselessly attacked the House select committee that investigated the insurrection of January 6, 2021, and spread other falsehoods.
Just minutes after McDaniel made her debut Sunday as an employee of NBC News on the venerable Meet The Press, the former moderator of that program — Chuck Todd — savaged the bosses who hired her, telling them that they owed current host Kristen Welker “an apology” for putting her in that position with McDaniel.
And McDaniel’s public disfavor at her new gig only grew Monday morning, on MSNBC’s popular morning news program, Morning Joe.
“I know you won’t be surprised to know that we’ve been inundated with calls this weekend, as have most people connected with this network, about NBC’s decision to hire her,” program co-host, and former Republican congressman, Joe Scarborough said on-camera, launching into his own diatribe.
“We learned about the hiring when we read about it in the press on Friday. We weren’t asked our opinion of the hiring, but if we were, we would have strongly objected to it for several reasons,” he added. “Including, but not limited to, as lawyers might say, Ms. Ms. McDaniel’s role in Donald Trump’s fake elector scheme and her pressuring election officials to not certify election results while Donald Trump was on the phone.”
That’s where Scarborough’s co-host and wife, Mika Brzezinski, picked up.
“NBC News should seek out conservative Republican voices to provide balance in their election coverage, but it should be conservative Republicans, not a person who used her position of power to be an anti-democracy election denier,” she said. “We hope NBC will reconsider its decision. It goes without saying that she will not be a guest on Morning Joe in her capacity as a paid contributor.”
