Social Media Lights Up for Pete Buttigieg for Senate
Former transportation secretary considering run in Michigan
Social media lit up Wednesday as news spread that Democrat Pete Buttigieg, who served as transportation secretary during the Biden administration, is thinking about running for Senate from Michigan.
Buttigieg, an articulate and prolific spokesman for President Joe Biden during his four years in office, reportedly is considering a run to succeed Sen Gary Peters (D-Mich).
Peters announced this week that he wouldn’t seek a third term in 2026.
Buttigieg, a former mayor of South Bend, Ind., made a run for the Democratic nomination for president in 2020, before ultimately throwing support to Biden.
He established residency in Traverse City, Mich, in 2022, which is the hometown of his husband, Chasten Glezman.
Typical of the posts on social media is this one from the prominent account, Call To Activism:
“Pete Buttigieg is seriously considering running for Senate in Michigan after [Gov] Gretchen Whitmer says she wouldn’t run for the open seat,” the post said. “Smash that RT if you agree Secretary Buttigieg would make a FANTASTIC Senator!!”
