Stephanopoulos: What Else Do We Need to Know About Jan. 6th? It Should Be ‘Case Closed’
Independent journalist notes calls for the National Guard were denied 14 times on January 6, 2021
As what likely will be the final public hearing of the House select committee investigating the events surrounding the January 6, 2021, insurrection got underway Thursday, only hours earlier a prominent television journalist was on the air questioning why such an additional session is even required.
The select committee — which spent the summer laying out a stunning and compelling case about the culpability surrounding the attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election — promised one final session before the coming midterm elections.
However, ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos appeared the night before on late-night funnyman Stephen Colbert's program and declared “case closed” on the insurrection and attempted coup to block the peaceful transfer of power to Democrat Joe Biden.
“They’re saying there will be all this new secret service evidence that will come out. I guess my big question is: What else do we need to know? He lost the election. He lied about it. He stoked up a crowd of armed militants. They stormed the Capitol while he watched it on TV. Shouldn’t that be case closed?” the longtime newsman asked.
Further, independent journalist Sandi Bachom tweeted an important reminder as Thursday's hearing was going to get underway.
“As you watch the #January6thCommitteeHearings REMEMBER, there were 30K people w/30K flags and hats w/Trump's name on them. Breach of the Capitol took 19 mins!!! The National Guard should have been called at 12:53 to shut it down, but was DENIED 14 times,” Bachom posted, along with video of the violent supporters of former president Donald Trump breaching the US Capitol.
