Steve Bannon Tells Supporters To 'Stand By': 'Will Someone Be Assassinated?'
Former Trump advisor angry after turning himself in to the FBI
Steve Bannon used the same phrase — “Stand by” — as his former boss did during a presidential debate last fall, when a combative Bannon finished turning himself in Monday after his indictment late last week.
The use of that phrase, which former president Donald Trump invoked during a debate against Joe Biden, caused serious concern among analysts and observers.
Trump’s use of the term was, at the time, seen as a signal to the violent, extremist elements among his supporters, including the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers.
Some now worry that Bannon may be sending a similar signal given the invective he used, naming names when he spoke to Monday with a scrum of reporters.
“Nancy Pelosi, Merrick Garland, Joe Biden we’re gonna go on offense. Stand by,” Bannon said after his hearing held for his indictment on two counts of contempt of Congress for defying a lawful subpoena from the House select committee investigating the events of the January 6 insurrection.
“Will someone be assassinated before the government takes this shit seriously?” asked Fred Wellman, a political consultant and senior advisor to the “Never Trumper” organization, Lincoln Project.
