‘Stop Giving Donald Trump a Pass’: Dem Beseeches Press on Its Coverage
Former president appears to threaten further violence online
The news media ought to reevaluate how it covers Donald Trump, according to a prominent young Democrat, as the podcast co-host, writer, activist and influencer noted the former president's latest apparent call to violence on social media.
“Donald Trump literally posted on Truth Social a message that reads, ‘WORLD WAR III.’ Donald Trump openly calling for war & violence on this Easter Sunday,” tweeted Victor Shi, the youngest delegate for President Biden at the 2020 Democratic National Convention. “This isn’t normal. Trump is a national security threat and must have a gag order imposed on him before it’s too late.”
Trump both is running again for the Republican nomination for president in 2024, and last week was indicted by a grand jury in New York on 34 felony counts related to his hush-money payment scheme ahead of his election in 2016.
Shi's tweet appears to be calling on the judge in Trump's criminal case to impose a gag order on the former president-turned-defendant to curb Trump's further calls to violence in retribution for his indictment.
Thousands of users on Trump's social media have “liked,” and forwarded his latest attempt to foment potential violence, Shi noted, saying that the way Trump's online posts are handled ought to be addressed.
“Stop giving Donald Trump a pass because he’s Donald Trump. He knows exactly what he’s doing & he must be held accountable for this. Make everyone understand this man can’t be president,” Shi tweeted. “Just let this sink in. And, yet, some media outlets still give him free airtime and the ability to spread lies & foment chaos & violence. Stop doing that. Call this man out as much as possible. This is a matter of saving our democracy from Trump.”
