Strategist: Biden Is ‘Going in the Lines of Ronald Reagan and Dwight Eisenhower in Terms of Actually Getting Things Done’
Republican Gingrich is singing a different tune about President Biden these days
Democrats are in the odd position of agreeing with former House speaker Newt Gingrich, who argues that his fellow Republicans must stop underestimating President Biden, who appears to be following in the quiet leadership style of two former GOP presidents: Dwight Eisenhower and Ronald Reagan, according to Gingrich, who became the first Republican House speaker in 40 years in 1995.
This new, Republican appraisal of Biden comes after the president was largely proven right by the fact that there was no “red wave” in last month's midterm elections.
Democrats will keep their Senate majority — and potentially add to it depending on the outcome of the looming Senate run-off election in Georgia — and Republicans will control the US House of Representatives by one of the narrowest margins in modern history.
“Thank you, Newt Gingrich, for rewriting with Democrats have been saying all along. Look, the question to your point is: Are Republicans going to pay attention? I mean they are so focused on debating these culture wars, having these fights on Twitter and whether the Freedom Caucus will lead the charge or more moderate wing of the party will succeed. My bet is on the Freedom Caucus,” Adrienne Elrod, a political strategist who worked on the Biden/Harris campaign, said in an on-camera appearance on MSNBC. “As opposed to actual legislating and the Dems, we talked about this on your show where the day that Nancy Pelosi said, ‘I am no longer running for Democratic leader,’ at the same time Republicans in the House held a press conference saying, ‘The first thing that we will do is examine Hunter Biden’s laptop.’ That is not what the American people want; that is not what they told Republicans that wanted in the midterm election cycle.
“They want competent and effective government. That is exactly what Newt Gingrich reiterated,” Elrod added. Biden “is getting things done and he is you know, going in the lines of Ronald Reagan and Dwight Eisenhower in terms of actually getting things done.”
