SURPRISE: WaPo Writer Calls Out Slur Against Mamdani
Mayoral nominee doesn’t use phrase he’s accused of by Hakeem Jeffries, journalist says
Sometimes the corporate media still has the ability to surprise.
Such was the case when a journalist with The Washington Post accurately reported that the newly nominated Democratic candidate for mayor of New York doesn’t use a controversial phrase that he’s been accused of using.
More than that: The Post’s Perry Bacon noted that the top Democrat in the House of Representatives took valuable time to discuss that phrase at the same moment Republicans on Capitol Hill were ready to begin taking the next steps to pass their so-called “Big, Beautiful Bill,” and start slashing Medicaid and other crucial federal programs.
Jonathan Karl, host of the ABC News program, This Week, asked House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) about a remark allegedly made by Jeffries’ fellow New York Democrat, the new nominee for mayor, Zohran Mamdani.
That phrase is, “Globalizing the intifada,” or the Palestinian uprisings against Israeli occupation.
Except that Mamdani has never used the phrase, according to Bacon.
Moreover, rather than defend Mamdani and reframe the debate back to the Republicans’ massive budget plan that stands on the precipice of passage in the Senate, Jeffries took the bait, Bacon pointed out.
“‘Globalizing the intifada’ by way of example is not an acceptable phrasing. He's gonna have to clarify his position on that as he moves forward,” Jeffries told Karl.
Except that Mamdani doesn’t say it.
“For 6 months, Dem leaders have downplayed or refused to frontally address many of Trump's worst abuses by saying those are ‘distractions’ from the Dems focusing on economic issues. But as Trump's tax bill is being voted on, Jeffries is attacking a Dem ...over a phrase that Dem doesn't even use, Bacon posted on his social media Sunday evening.
