‘That Is How You Think When You Are in a Cult’: Harsh Words for Republicans After Hunter Biden Conviction
Democrat tells right-wingers to stop attacking the justice system
A Democratic congressman took Republicans for their bizarre rhetoric following the conviction of President Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, on federal gun charges.
Republicans voiced some bizarre theories about President Biden’s control of the justice system after his adult son was found guilty all three felony charges related to the purchase of a revolver in 2018 when, prosecutors argued, Hunter Biden lied on a mandatory gun-purchase form by saying he was not illegally using or addicted to drugs.
The younger Biden has long struggled with addiction.
Rep Jim McGovern, of Massachusetts, had some harsh words for Republicans and their rhetoric after news of the conviction broke, specifically outlandish statements regarding President Biden somehow manipulated the justice system against both his son and Donald Trump, who was himself convicted last month of 34 felony counts unrelated to the Biden case.
Republicans have been railing, in sharp terms, about the unfairness of the justice system since a jury in New York found Trump guilty.
“As usual, the only Trump Derangement Syndrome is on the other side of the aisle,” McGovern said during a hearing on Capitol Hill. “People are saying that Biden orchestrated the conviction of his own son in order to justify the criminal charges against Trump. That is how you think when you are in a cult.
“So here’s the bottom line: Republicans just can’t wrap their heads around the idea that their presidential candidate — your presumptive nominee — is a convicted felon,” he added. “That is not the result of some sham process, or some vast conspiracy by the Biden administration. That is the result of the truth. And these attacks on our justice system have to come to a stop.”
