The End of An Era: No More Roe
Corporations you patronize also are fueling the fight to restrict abortion rights
The US Supreme Court released its expected decision Friday, one which upends about half a century of guaranteed nationwide access to abortions.
It's also a day in which the little-known Republican Attorneys General Association (RAGA) — which represents the nation's Republican state attorneys general — not only took credit for the historic reversal but to observe the event, it actually sent out a fundraising appeal over the ruling.
And, whether you know it or not, the products and services you purchase contribute to that anti-abortion cause.
Journalist Judd Legum uncovered a long list of consumer products and services companies which have been actively donating big-dollar amounts to RAGA.
Among those companies:
Koch Industries
Home Depot
Walmart
gopuff (online delivery service)
DISH Network
Continental Tire
JP Morgan
Cigna
Tyson Foods
Mike's Hard Lemonade
1800CONTACTS
Yum Brands (KFC, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell)
And more
“These are companies that donated to the @RepublicanAGs between January 1, 2022 and March 31, 2022. But we are going to keep monitoring RAGA (and others) and hold corporations accountable,” Legum tweeted.
Americans who value access to abortion services — and women's rights, more broadly — can and should evaluate whether they want to continue patronizing these corporations.
Americans who say, “No,” should tell each of these corporations just why you are withholding your business and encourage others to do likewise.
Make anti-abortion and anti-woman politics and policy bad for business.
