'The January 6 Committee Doesn't Need Cooperation From Every Witness'
Defiance of subpoenas, by some, will not hobble the probe, a former top federal prosecutor says
With more former top associates of former president Donald Trump coming out to illegally defy congressional subpoenas in connection with the House investigation into the events of the January 6 insurrection, a former top federal prosecutor is offering a rare bit of good news.
One-time Trump White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows is the latest to thumb his nose at lawmakers, who issued Meadows a legal subpoena to appear before the House select committee investigating the January 6 Capitol riot.
Meadows joins former top Trump aide Steve Bannon, who is now facing federal charges and potential jail time for refusing to cooperate with the select committee.
Others in Trump’s former orbit will also be subpoenaed, and of those, a number could well also defy their fully lawful subpoenas.
But that's okay, said Joyce Vance, a legal analyst for MSNBC and a US attorney during the Obama administration.
“The January 6th Committee doesn't need cooperation from every witness - just from enough of them. And they seem to be getting it. People like Meadows who play around will end up underneath the bus,” Vance tweeted Tuesday.
