‘The Most Vivid Example of Left-wing Hostility’: Right-wing Outrage Over McDaniel Has Begun
Network cut ties with former RNC chief after days of on-camera humiliation
NBC News executives ought to get themselves a good lawyer.
Not just because Ronna McDaniel is eying a lawsuit against the network after being dropped as a paid contributor after just days since getting the on-camera gig, either.
They’ve begun suffering a severe case of whiplash.
First the NBC News bosses endured humiliating public, on-camera condemnation by their own hosts and journalists lashing their decision to hire McDaniel, the ex-chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC) who denied the results of the 2020 presidential election and spouted countless other falsehoods on behalf of Donald Trump.
But now that network executives cut ties with McDaniel after this intense pressure from staff and viewers alike, they’re facing outrage over that move from those on the right.
The scorn those on the right are heaping on NBC News and its cable outlet — MSNBC — because it cut ties with McDaniel predictably ignores the election denial and other disinformation McDaniel regularly promulgated as the head of the Republican party.
Those right-wing media are trying to frame McDaniel’s ouster as an issue of political bias, despite the fact that NBC News, and especially MSNBC, maintains a large stable of Republicans and former Republicans who support truth and democracy, including Richard Haass, Nicolle Wallace, Joe Scarborough, and Michael Steele.
One of those was Ari Fleischer, who’s been a personality on Fox News since he left his post working in the White House under President George W Bush.
“NBC should never get to host a GOP primary debate or townhall. GOP Senators/Congressmen should not go on Meet the Press. No NBC anchor should participate in a presidential debate,” Fleischer said in a social media post. “What NBC is saying is if you’re for Trump, you don’t belong. Good. Let NBC be for Democrats only.”
One-time Republican House speaker Newt Gingrich played a game of “whataboutism” by calling out MSNBC’s hiring of Jen Psaki following her tenure at the Biden White House.
“Well, look, Biden’s press secretary went from the White House to NBC in three weeks. Nobody at NBC complained that having Biden’s press secretary in the news operation was inappropriate,” Gingrich said. “What you have is the most vivid example of left-wing hostility to Republicans. And the Republican Party should adopt a position of not dealing with NBC, period, until they reform themselves.”
Not surprisingly, Fox News host Laura Ingraham tried to claim that NBC News is in the tank for the Democratic National Committee (DNC).
“It’s the shortest tenure in TV history, I think. But why? Well, because she supports Donald Trump, period, and because she didn’t denounce him after the election or after January 6,” she said. “Believe no other explanation they provide about why they got rid of her. She is not a random pundit. This is a former chairwoman of the RNC.
“Now, believe it or not, this is great news — not for Ronna, of course, but certainly for the election,” Ingraham claimed, baselessly. “The truth is, these people have so little faith in Biden’s record or the power of their own ideas that their only response is to silence and defame. They certainly can’t risk anyone watching NBC and being persuaded by Ronna or anyone like her.
“Forget the fact that at least half of the voting public — potential viewers as well — agree with her,” she added, again baselessly. “Now, this isn’t the news business. This is simply an extension of the DNC.”
