‘They Mentioned Me 297 Times’: Trump Triggered by the DNC
Republican continues to make the campaign all about himself
The celebration and exuberance at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago clearly is getting to Donald Trump.
The former president, whose campaign to return to the White House has faltered in recent weeks since Vice President Kamala Harris replaced President Biden at the top of the Democratic ticket, made that clear during a phone-in to Fox News.
Trump’s comments demonstrate that, while those speaking at the DNC emphasize themes of neighborliness and outreach, he continues to make the election all about himself.
The call to the Fox & Friends morning program was light on policy but much heavier on Trump’s personal grievance.
He called in as Democrats officially nominated Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov Tim Walz, as his opponents in the coming election.
“I have to listen to a lightweight like this get up and absolutely lie. But they all lied,” Trump claimed, with no evidence. “And they mentioned my name, I read where in — and frankly, I watched where you said, your group said, you said specifically, I think they mentioned me 297 times.”
These sorts of comments illustrate that Democrats are getting under Trump’s thin skin, such as those Trump made last week at a campaign event at his Bedminster NJ, golf club.
Specifically, he doesn’t like Democrats like Harris characterizing him and his running mate, Sen JD Vance of Ohio, as “weird.”
“She actually called me weird, ‘he’s weird,’” Trump said as he insisted that he is “entitled” to attack Harris personally. “It was just a sound bite. And she called JD and I weird.”
