‘They Need to Be Removed from that Land’: One-time Presidential Hopeful Calls for Ethnic Cleansing in Gaza
Republican wants Palestinian land converted to "a national park" for Israel
Even the most ardent defenders of Israel usually will, at least, pay some lip service to humanitarian protection for Palestinian civilians — including thousands of children and women — being killed by Israeli forces in Gaza.
Not Michele Bachmann.
The former Republican congresswoman from Minnesota and one-time presidential aspirant wants every Palestinian eliminated from the territory, and she’s very clear about her goal which amounts to ethnic cleansing.
Close to 20,000 Palestinians have been killed — 70 percent of them women and children — since Israel launched its military retaliation for the brutal October 7 Hamas attacks which took the lives of some 1,200 Israelis.
While President Biden and others are warning the Israeli government to do more to protect civilians, Bachmann wants bombing in Gaza to proceed, full steam ahead.
“The money is flowing in for Gaza. All the money is coming in from Iran, and that’s — that’s what the people of Gaza are. They’re basically hired mercenaries,” Bachmann told far-right propagandist Charlie Kirk, on Kirk’s program. “That is their industry. Terrorism is their industry. That’s why you have more miles of tunnels, Charlie, than you have the New York subway because they have one industry in Gaza. And that’s terrorism.
“So, it’s time that Gaza ends. The 2 million people who live there, they are clever assassins. They need to be removed from that land,” added Bachmann, who represented Minnesota’s 6th congressional district for eight years and ran unsuccessfully for the Republican presidential nomination in 2012. “That land needs to be turned into a national park. And since they’re the voluntary mercenaries for Iran, they need to be dropped down the doorstep of Iran. Let Iran deal with those people.”
What Bachmann is calling for clearly fits the international definition of ethnic cleansing: “Rendering an area ethnically homogeneous by using force or intimidation to remove from a given area persons of another ethnic or religious group, which is contrary to international law.”
