Top Loyalist Admits Trump ‘May Not Win This Election’
Sen Lindsey Graham says Trump's angry attacks aren't helpful
In a stunning public public acknowledgement of Donald Trump’s difficulty in the campaign for president, one of his staunchest allies admits that Trump could well lose the election.
Sen Lindsey Graham (R-SC), known for once tearing up on national television while asking for supporters to donate to Trump, acknowledged on Sunday that Trump will be in a poor position if he continues his stubborn course of anger and personal attacks against his opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris.
Trump has seen his political fortunes tumble in the weeks since President Biden dropped his bid for reelection and endorsed Harris as his successor.
Trump, a convicted felon facing sentencing in New York in less than a month, has been focusing on often vicious and racist attacks on Harris since she became the Democratic standard-bearer, including aspersions on her intelligence and racial identity.
He and his allies have been struggling to land any political attacks that could blunt the rise Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov Tim Walz, have been seeing in public opinion polls.
Not unsurprisingly, Graham claims that Trump has superior policy ideas, but risks tipping the election towards the Democrats if he continues to evade policy and maintains his invective.
Just last week, Trump held an event at his Bedminster NJ, golf club to ostensibly talk about the US economy. But he quickly veered into talk about how he is “entitled” to make personal attacks against Harris. And Trump has shown no inclination to stop his jibes.
“President Trump can win this election. His policies are good for America. If you have a policy debate, he wins,” Graham said in an on-camera appearance on the NBC News program, Meet The Press. “Donald Trump the provocateur, the showman, may not win this election.”
