Transportation Secretary Promotes Electric Vehicles
"This administration believes every American deserves the option of an affordable EV," Buttigieg says
Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg took to social media to promote the purchase and use of electric vehicles by average American motorists.
Buttigieg recalled the first experience he and husband, Chasten, had with the advanced-technology cars.
“Chasten and I bought our first plug-in hybrid electric vehicle five years ago, used. It cost us about $14,000,” Buttigieg, a former mayor of South Bend, Ind., tweeted. “We charged it through a regular wall plug in our garage in South Bend, and owning it meant we only needed gas for longer road trips, saving us money on fuel.”
It's the intent and policy of the Biden administration to make these vehicles available more widely, Buttigieg added, as part of an overall strategy to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions which cause climate change.
“This administration believes every American deserves the option of an affordable EV and good charging infrastructure wherever they live and drive (along with great transit and active transportation of course). We're hard at work delivering this, so every household can benefit,” the secretary added.
