Traveling In Peru, Trans Influencer Laments ‘It’s a Little Sad That I Had To Leave My Country to Feel Safe’
Dylan Mulvaney had been targeted over a brief endorsement of beer
Dylan Mulvaney, the popular transgender social media influencer who was targeted earlier this year by those on the political right, is traveling abroad.
She's llama-watching and taking in the sights of Peru.
But she also said that she feels “safe.”
Mulvaney is traveling after being in a firestorm of right-wing outrage over a brief endorsement deal in which she promoted the Bud Light brand of beer.
That endorsement led to a massive boycott of Bud Light among those on the right, as well as prominent right-wing figures shooting cans of the beer.
Some Republican senators, including Sen Ted Cruz of Texas, even promised an investigation into Mulvaney and the short-lived commercial partnership.
Known for detailing her gender transition in daily videos on TikTok since early 2022, Mulvaney has risen to fame having made TV appearances as well as talking with President Biden about transgender rights.
Mulvaney has spoken out about the toll those right-wing outbursts have had on her life and mental health.
She recently posted a video speaking from Machu Picchu, the historical site in Peru known as the “Lost City of the Incas.”
“Okay, surprise! I’m in Peru. And I’m at Machu Picchu. Isn’t this just so beautiful? I’m here by myself, and I used to do a ton of solo travelling. I’m telling you, it’s the best,” Mulvaney said, addressing her fans. “If you could ever do a solo trip somewhere, it is such a good way to get to know yourself better. But I came here to feel something. You know what I mean? And I definitely have.
“I’ve done shaman ceremonies that were like 10 years worth of therapy. It was wild. I’ve seen a lot of llamas and the people here are so kind,” she added. “I feel very safe here. It’s a little sad that I had to leave my country to feel safe, but that will get better eventually.”
