Trump Loyalist Demands Biden Drug Test Ahead of Debate
Just the latest turn in how far Trump’s baseless accusations have gone
A Republican congressman who once served as Donald Trump’s White House physician is formally demanding President Biden submit to a drug test before he faces off against Trump this week in the first presidential debate.
Rep Ronny Jackson, of Texas, issued his demand Monday in a formal congressional letter to Biden and Biden’s White House physician, Dr Kevin O’Connor.
Trump and his allies on the political right have, for years, been alleging Biden has been suffering cognitive decline.
More recently, they have been claiming — falsely and baselessly — that Biden will be “jacked up” on cocaine or other substances when he debates Trump Thursday in the first presidential debate.
Biden has been at the Camp David presidential retreat with his staff prepping for the debate, but Jackson reportedly has been spreading a baseless and bizarre rumor that the president is at the retreat to be dosed on drugs ahead of the debate.
Trump shared Jackson’s letter on his personal social media site.
“President Biden, in advance of the first scheduled 2024 presidential debate in Atlanta on June 27, 2024, and on behalf of millions of concerned Americans, I demand that you submit to a clinically validated drug test in order to reassure the American people that you are mentally fit to serve as President and not relying on performance enhancing drugs to help you with your debate performance or on a day-to-day basis to assist you in performing your duties as President of the United States,” Jackson wrote.
Jackson also directly addressed Dr O’Connor in the letter, making more unsubstantiated claims.
“Dr O’Connor, over the past four years, President Biden’s mental decline has continued to accelerate, and the instances of him slurring his words, shuffling his feet, stumbling while walking, losing his train of thought, and appearing confused and lost during public appearances have become even more frequent,” Jackson wrote.
