Trump Nixes January 6 Speech In Favor of Rally Later This Month
Former president's Wednesday statement just more falsehood and grievance
Donald Trump's nixed the speech which he intended to deliver on the anniversary of the January 6 insurrection at the US Capitol Building.
Instead, the former president vows to spread his falsehoods at a rally later this month in Arizona.
Trump had been long expected to deliver a speech Thursday filled with the same grievance and falsehoods which he has been spreading for months about the riot.
Evading his suspension on social media, Trump posted his statement via spokeswoman Liz Harrington.
“In light of the total bias and dishonesty of the January 6th Unselect Committee of Democrats, two failed Republicans, and the Fake News Media, I am canceling the January 6th Press Conference at Mar-a-Lago on Thursday, and instead will discuss many of these important topics at my rally Saturday, January 15 in Arizona,” Trump said.
Trump has continued to peddle the lie that the 2020 presidential election was stolen from him by fabricated Democratic “fraud,” and he continues to try to assert that his extremist supporters who attacked the Capitol one year ago are somehow the true victims.
This, despite the fact that dozens of those rioters have pleaded guilty and been sentenced to prison for as long as 41 months.
