Trump Proposes 'Stupid' Plan To Bomb Russia And Try to Blame It on China
Former president reveals outlandish proposal in donor meeting
Former president Donald Trump was immediately thrashed for an outlandish plan he concocted, in which US warplanes would attack Russia, but — to avoid potentially devastating nuclear retaliation — the US military would lie, and blame the attack on China.
Trump reportedly revealed this idea of his in a meeting with donors, as he continues to stoke speculation that he might try a political comeback with another run for president in 2024.
But from the reaction, just about the only thing getting shot down in Trump's blame-shifting game is the plan itself.
Trump mused to donors that the US military should take its F-22 stealth tactical fighter aircraft, “put the Chinese flag on them and bomb the shit out” of Russia, according to Washington Post reporter Josh Dawsey.
“And then we say, China did it, we didn't do, China did it, and then they start fighting with each other and we sit back and watch,” Trump said, according to Dawsey.
Trump’s aggressive attitude towards Russia is surprising, given that just a little more than a week ago he was praising Russian leader Vladimir Putin as a “genius” for his invasion of Ukraine.
Pollster and political consultant Rod McCulloch said that Trump was “Obviously joking,” but others were not so sure.
A Twitter user who goes by the handle, “Arolpin,” and identifies as a Navy veteran, said that what Trump suggested is just ludicrous from a military standpoint.
“You do realize that modern radar can tell you a lot about what type of aircraft it’s tracking, right? Plus the fact that people have eyes, and know how to differentiate different types of aircraft? Like, it’s fucking trivially easy for anyone who does this, like a military,” Arolpin tweeted.
Rep Ilhan Omar (D-Minn), a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, was just as uncharitable in reacting to Trump's idea of a deception.
“Imagine someone is stupid enough to believe China would have access to our F-22 planes. Now imagine that person being the former President of America and former Commander in Chief,” the congresswoman tweeted.
