Trump's Niece Makes 1st Democratic Endorsements
Represents work by Mary Trump's political organization
Mary Trump, the former president's estranged niece who has made something of a second career opposing her uncle's right-wing and nativist policies, has announced the first endorsements from her political organization.
A therapist by training, Mary Trump's made a name for herself as one of uncle’s chief critics, particularly with the bestselling 2020 book about him — Too Much and Never Enough — and ongoing TV interviews.
Mary Trump took to Twitter to announce the first endorsements from the political organization she established just last month, Democracy Defense Fund (DDF).
DDF kicked off its endorsements with probably the two most high-profile Democrats running for governor.
That includes Stacey Abrams, in Georgia.
“The future of #VotingRights runs through Georgia and @staceyabrams has been a tireless champion in that fight. The Democracy Defense Fund is proud to endorse her campaign for Governor,” Mary Trump tweeted.
It also includes former congressman, and one-time presidential hopeful, Beto O'Rourke, in Texas, who hopes to defeat Republican incumbent Gov Greg Abbott.
“Last September, Greg Abbott signed a dangerous and sweeping voter restriction bill into law. If we’re going to defeat him in 2022, we need all hands on deck. Today, we’re proud to endorse @BetoORourke for Governor,” Trump added.
Both of her endorsements posted on social media solicited donations for each candidate.
Trump describes DDF saying, “The Democracy Defense Fund invests in high impact, time-sensitive projects that protect U.S. democratic institutions currently under threat.”
