‘Trump’s Obsession With Transgender Folks’: Trans Americans Have Become Bizarre Fixation
Even when he’s supposed to be talking about something else, he comes back to trans folks
An award-winning and iconic Hollywood actress has called out Donald Trump for what has become the president’s obsessive fixation on transgender Americans.
Trump and his administration no longer seem content attacking the rights of the trans community, but the president keeps bringing them up — even when he’s supposed to be talking about something else.
That Trump continues to focus so much attention on such a tiny sliver of the US population has not gone unnoticed.
Trump has taken aim at rolling back the rights of transgender Americans since his first day back in office last year.
Through a variety of executive orders, regulations, and other actions, Trump and his administration have been limiting the ability of trans Americans to access their healthcare, removed thousands of trans service members from the US military, and has been working to push transgender Americans out of public life.
Although the overwhelming majority of Americans consistently list the state of the US economy, affordability, healthcare and other matters as vastly more important than trans issues, Trump won’t stop talking about them.
Even — and maybe especially — when he’s ostensibly supposed to be discussing other things.
Earlier this year, Trump unexpectedly began insisting congressional Republicans include anti-trans measures in his other personal obsession, the SAVE America Act.
A voter-suppression bill, Trump nonetheless demanded the inclusion of completely unrelated anti-trans components in the legislation.
Trump regularly peppers his speeches and remarks with anti-trans remarks and slurs.
He did it again this week, during his primetime address to the nation.
Trump’s Thursday night speech was focused on false claims about the 2020 presidential election and his other baseless election conspiracies.
But it’s like he couldn’t help himself when — talking about the state of the country two years ago — he blurted out: “We had transgender for everybody.”
That got the attention of Mia Farrow, the famed actress who once was married to the legendary crooner, Frank Sinatra.
Especially considering that Trump is devoting so much rhetoric and action against such a tiny segment of the US population.
The 81-year-old winner of the Golden Globe, Tony, and other awards, got on social media Friday to say so.
“Just 0.95% to 1.0% of the United States population aged 13 and older identifies as transgender,” she posted. “So, what is Trump’s obsession with transgender folks?”
Farrow’s contention is backed up by actual data measuring the size of the US transgender population.
