TV Commentator: Nikki Haley Wants to Put ‘Softer, Kinder Spin’ on Trump’s Racism
"Republicans are freaking out because their base of voters are not multiracial," Zerlina Maxwell says
As she seems to position herself for the 2024 Republican presidential race, Nikki Haley is trying to put a “softer, kinder spin” on the sorts of nativism and racism promulgated by Donald Trump, according to a television political host and commentator.
Haley, a former Republican governor of South Carolina and Trump’s first ambassador to the United Nations, so far appears to be the most prominent woman looking to run for the Republican presidential nomination.
Haley is looking to appeal to Trump's “MAGA” supporters, according to Zerlina Maxwell, a political news host on Comcast-Universal's Peacock streaming service and a commentator for MSNBC.
“The demographics in this country are shifting. That’s why Georgia went blue, that’s why Arizona went blue, that's why Texas was so close. Republicans are freaking out because their base of voters are not multiracial,” Maxwell said. “Their base of voters are white older people who don’t want to see changes in this country. And to be clear, those white older people were alive in points in American history when I didn’t have as many rights and you didn’t have as many rights and Kurt didn’t have as my rights, added Maxwell, who is Black and referring to her fellow MSNBC co-panelist Kurt Bardella, an Asian-American former Republican operative.
“They want to keep the power in their hands. The country is changing, they’re afraid. Nikki Haley, she wants to put a softer, kinder spin on this same racism that Donald Trump espoused for over four years in the White House and throughout the campaign,” she added.
