‘Ukraine Will Join NATO,’ Secretary General Declares
War with Russia has entered its third year
Even as the West has begun to falter in its support for its war against Russia, “Ukraine will join NATO,” according to the leader of the transatlantic alliance.
Ukraine has entered its third year trying to fight off Russian leader Vladimir Putin’s full-scale invasion with political infighting among Republicans in the United States casting serious doubts on the future of further US assistance in that war effort.
And the effects of that stall in further aid already has begun to be felt on the battlefield.
But NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg publicly assured that Ukraine will join the alliance.
Although opposition to NATO expansion was one of Putin’s rationales for invading Ukraine in the first place, his brutal incursion only has resulted in just that: an unprecedented growth in NATO membership.
Finland already has joined the alliance and Sweden is expected to soon follow — all spurred by fears of Putin’s aggression.
“And we are deepening our political ties through the NATO-Ukraine Council where we consult and make decisions together,” Stoltenberg said in remarks Sunday.
The NATO-Ukraine Council is the current joint body where NATO allies and Ukraine sit as equal participants to advance political dialogue and engagement.
“Ukraine will join NATO. It is not a question of if, but of when,” Stoltenberg added. “As we prepare you for that day, NATO will continue to stand with Ukraine for your security and for ours.”
