US Government Funnels Another $550 Million To Ukraine
It brings to more than $8 billion sent to war effort
The US government is sending another $550 million to help the sovereign and democratic nation of Ukraine defend itself against Russian leader Vladimir Putin's lawless and bloody incursion.
That came from an announcement Monday from Pentagon spokesman John Kirby.
“Today’s announcements going to include more ammunition for the high-mobility advanced rocket systems otherwise known as HIMARS, I know you’re all familiar with that, as well as ammunition for the 155 millimeter artillery systems, which have already been supplied to Ukraine and are in the field,” Kirby said at Monday's White House briefing.
The United States has sent 16 HIMARS to Ukraine in total. The newest four arrived on Monday, Oleksii Reznikov, Ukraine's defense minister, announced on Twitter.
The HIMARS systems have been described as a “game changer” in Ukraine's struggle against Putin's brutal and lawless aggression.
“This will be the 17th time that the Biden administration has authorized security assistance package using presidential drawdown authority since President Biden took office, and it brings to more than $8 billion drawdown authority alone in material and security assistance for Ukraine just since the invasion began in late February,” Kirby added.
