WASHINGTON WATCH: Fox Hosts Mock Pelosi In Her Bathing Suit
Puerile banter only serves to illustrate the intelligence level on-camera at Fox News
Granted, compared to the verbal diarrhea which is his regular spew of the racist “replacement theory,” it's hardly the most vile garbage ever to come from Tucker Carlson.
And it probably can't compete in seriousness, with the misinformation — and downright disinformation — Fox News has been happy to dish up on COVID-19 and its vaccines.
Nonetheless, the little stunt which Carlson and fellow Fox host Jason Chaffetz set up Wednesday night at the expense of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was not only puerile and juvenile — it was ageist and absolutely misogynistic.
(And why I would think that Chaffetz — a one-time Republican congressman from Utah — should be above such reprehensible antics has me reevaluating the honor to which the House of Representatives should be held.)
At any rate, in a cheap gag more expected from low-achievement high school boys, Carlson threw to a photo of Pelosi in a bathing suit and proceeded to mock and denigrate the speaker over the attire.
CHAFFETZ: “Tucker, what are you doing?”
CARLSON: “(Laughs) Sorry!”
CHAFFETZ: “What, did you get every person in the country to turn off their television? You throw that up on the screen?”
CARLSON: “I didn’t mean it. I just — ”
CHAFFETZ: “Someday I’m going to have my show before you and do that to you.”
CARLSON: “Totally fair. Totally fair. Good luck tonight, Jason.”
CHAFFETZ: “Yeah. Thanks, Tucker. Appreciate it. I owe you one.”
So this is what passes for host-to-host banter on Fox News at primetime? Making fun of an 82-year-old woman doing nothing more than being guilty of having had photos taken of her in a non-descript swimsuit?
And people wonder why those of us on the political left question the intelligence level of Fox News.
When, say, Rachel Maddow gabs with either fellow MSNBC hosts Chris Hayes or Lawrence O'Donnell, for example, they usually have something of substance to say. They certainly don't ever bring themselves down to the level we saw Wednesday from Carlson and Chaffetz.
And then there's this to say about the jab at Pelosi: It's really actually pretty misplaced.
Madam Speaker actually doesn't look half bad at all in that suit — 82 years old or not.
