‘We’re Going to End That One Quick!’: Trump Obsesses Over Women’s Boxing
Incoming president focuses on sport while pressing issues face Americans
Donald Trump’s going to take office next month facing a wide array of crucial issues, including prices American consumers pay, continued funding for the federal government, the war in Ukraine, and many more.
But the incoming president is obsessing over an issue few Americans ever think about: the sport of women’s boxing.
But during a speech to a right-wing group in Arizona, Trump vowed to end the entire sport “very quickly.”
Women’s boxing actually has a long history, with reports of women entering the boxing ring as far back as the 18th century.
More recently, the sport has been recognized as an Olympic sport since the 2012 Games, producing the world's first 12 female Olympic medalist boxers.
But despite the many pressing issues facing Americans today, Trump wants to devote precious presidential time waging a war against the sport.
That’s according to his remarks at a Turning Point USA event in Phoenix, Ariz.
Trump and his incoming vice president, JD Vance, both campaigned with air of misogyny ahead of the election.
After promising a “golden age” for the nation, Trump oddly pivoted to women’s boxing.
“There’s a spirit that we have now that we didn’t have just a short while ago. Sadly, we didn’t have. Who the hell can have spirit watching women get beat up in a boxing ring?” he asked . “I don’t think that’s spirit, right? We’re going to end that one quick! We’re going to end it very quickly. We’re going to end that one very quickly. We’re going to that one very quick.”
