W.H. Chief of Staff: Republicans Will Make ‘Inflation and Everyday Costs Worse’ if They Win
Democrats try to make economic argument ahead of the midterm elections
Republicans will make inflation worse if they win control of Congress in the upcoming November midterm elections, according to White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain.
Democrats have begun zeroing in on an economic message amid signs that Republicans have grabbed political momentum in the battle for control of Congress.
Recent public opinion polling indicates that more voters are worried about rising prices and the affordability of the cost of living.
Democrats are defending their razor-thin majorities in both houses of Congress.
Among recent wins, Democrats approved sweeping legislation known as the Inflation Reduction Act, which sets minimum taxes on ultra-wealthy individuals and corporations,as well as cap the costs of prescription drugs among other provisions.
“Republican leaders in Congress have said that if they get control of the Congress, they’re going to repeal the Inflation Reduction Act, cut taxes for corporations, raise the deficit — that’ll make inflation worse — get rid of the cap on prescription drug costs, that takes effect on January 1, get rid of Medicare’s ability to negotiate prescription drug costs — that’s going to make inflation and everyday costs worse,” Klain said Wednesday in an appearance on MSNBC's Morning Joe program.
