'What Kind of American ... Thinks This Is Right Time To Enter Into A Scheme With Vladimir Putin?'
Florida Republican's alleged turning over of laptop data opens more questions
The White House pushed back — hard — Wednesday at Donald Trump's suggestion that Russian leader Vladimir Putin look for “dirt” on Hunter Biden as Putin continues to slaughter civilians in Ukraine.
Trump, and others on the political right, have for years been trying to find anything related to President Biden's son which could also potentially taint the elder Biden.
“This actually happened during a time of war, while the democracies of the world stand with Ukraine: Trump asked Putin to help him get dirt on Hunter Biden in an interview, ‘So now I would think Putin would know the answer to that — I think he should release it,’” tweeted author, journalist and podcaster Amy Siskind.
White House Communications Director Kate Bedingfield responded strongly Wednesday during the regular press briefing.
“What kind of American, let alone an ex-president, thinks that this is the right time to enter into a scheme with Vladimir Putin ... There is only one, and it’s Donald Trump,” Bedingfield said.
Meanwhile, Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz, of Florida — who is himself under federal investigation for sex trafficking — appeared to set off a political bombshell Tuesday, when he claimed to have entered the contents of Hunter Biden's laptop computer into the congressional record.
That, itself, opens up an important question, according to author and investigative journalist Victoria Brownworth.
“Since the FBI is trending, we should all want to know why accused child trafficker Matt Gaetz never explained how he could have acquired Hunter Biden's laptop and why if he really did, Gaetz didn't turn it over to the FBI,” Brownworth tweeted Wednesday.
Correction: An earlier version of this story misspelled the name of Rep Matt Gaetz (R-Fla). It has been corrected.
