White House Claps Back Hard on Marjorie Taylor Greene's Debt Hypocrisy
Right-wing congresswoman slammed policy decision to relieve student loans
The White House is fighting back hard against Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene's hypocrisy over federal debt relief after the Georgia Republican attacked President Biden's new policy to cancel up to $20,000 in student loans for some Americans.
The federal government will cancel $10,000 in student loan debt for Americans earning $125,000 or less per year and extend the pandemic-era pause on payments for all borrowers until December 31. The plan also eliminates an additional $10,000 of debt for Pell Grant recipients, according to the new White House policy which Biden unveiled Wednesday at the White House.
Predictably that raised the ire of Biden's Republican opponents, including Greene who is associated with the fringes of the Republican Party, including the baseless QAnon conspiracy, racist Christian Nationalism and the wild idea that California wildfires have been sparked by lasers in outer space owned by Jewish people.
Greene appeared on right-wing media almost immediately Wednesday to denounce the Biden plan.
“For our government just to say ok your debt is completely forgiven.. it’s completely unfair,” she said.
The White House, however, didn't let her criticism go unanswered, however — and instead came back swinging Thursday on social media.
“Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene had $183,504 in PPP loans forgiven,” the White House tweeted, referring to funds her business in Georgia received under the federal Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) designed to offer relief during the sharp economic downturn sparked by the COVID-19 pandemic.
