White House Press Secretary Takes Swipe At Trump Administration With Answer On Cuomo
Justice Department works "independently" in the Biden administration, Psaki says
White House press secretary Jen Psaki shut down multiple questions about the news breaking Tuesday about the finding that New York Gov Andrew Cuomo (D) had engaged in sexual harassment with a backhanded swipe at the Trump administration.
Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy, who regularly tangles with Psaki during the daily news briefings, asked several questions related to the news that the office of New York state attorney general Letitia James determined that Cuomo had engaged in a pattern of sexual harassment with nearly a dozen women.
Cuomo's been under a cloud of scandal for months after multiple women came forward with complaints.
At the White House briefing, Psaki replied to one Doocy inquiry by saying that President Biden would address the Cuomo matter himself, separately, later today.
The Fox News reporter persisted, asking if Biden would call on the Justice Department to open a federal investigation into Cuomo's behavior.
Psaki replied: “We do something new here that feels foreign from the last four years and allow the Justice Department to act independently on investigations.”
Former president Donald Trump regularly interfered with his Justice Department — including his attempt at the end of his administration to pressure the agency to falsely declare the 2020 presidential election fraudulent.
