With Racist Post, Republican Attacks on Haitian Migrants Continue
Congressman threatens community after charges filed against Trump and Vance
If you thought that Republican attacks against the community of Haitian migrants in Ohio have ended, you’d be wrong.
Rep Clay Higgins fired off a deeply racist post on social media after an organization filed charges against Donald Trump and his running mate, JD Vance, for spreading false claims about Haitians in Springfield Ohio eating their neighbors’ pets.
The Haitians, who are in the country legally, have been under threat since Trump and Vance have been knowingly spreading disinformation about them as a political issue.
The community in Springfield — which Vance represents as a US senator from Ohio — has faced dozens of bomb threats and other dangers since the Republican presidential ticket has been maligning them.
Trump and Vance are charged with disrupting public services, making false alarms, telecommunications harassment, aggravated menacing and complicity. The filing asks the Clark County Municipal Court to affirm that there is probable cause and issue arrest warrants against the Republican presidential ticket.
There is no evidence that Haitians have been eating their neighbors’ pets.
Although the Republican mayor of Springfield and the governor of Ohio have been defending the city’s Haitian community, others are continuing to attack.
Rep Clay Higgins, a Republican from Louisiana, posted a racist and threatening message to social media in response to the charges.
“Lol. These Haitians are wild. Eating pets, vudu, nastiest country in the western hemisphere, cults, slapstick gangsters… but damned if they don’t feel all sophisticated now, filing charges against our President and VP. All these thugs better get their mind right and their ass out of our country before January 20th,” Higgins wrote.
Despite what Higgins wrote, neither Trump nor Vance currently are president or vice president.
They will face Democratic nominees Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the November election.
