‘You Can’t Peacefully Transfer Power to an Insurrectionist’: MSNBC Host Disputes Harris’ Role
Joy Reid contradicts portrayal of reestablishing norms on January 6
A prominent MSNBC host is disputing the significance of Vice President Kamala Harris’ role certifying the election of her one-time opponent, Donald Trump.
Harris and other Democrats emphasized the importance of Harris presiding over the certification of the man who defeated her in the November elections as demonstrating the “peaceful transfer of power.”
Harris and other officials in Congress affirmed Trump’s win Monday, four years to the day after a mob of Trump supporters stormed the US Capitol Building in a violent insurrection in an attempt to block the peaceful transfer of power to President Biden.
Harris portrayed her role Monday as reestablishing respect for a peaceful transfer of power, but Joy Reid contradicted that notion during her MSNBC program Monday evening.
“You do realize the rest of the world can see us, right? And 14 days from today you will hear many soberly laud the peaceful transfer of power. I hate to be the fly at the picnic table but you can’t peacefully transfer power to an insurrectionist simply because it took them an extra four years to finish the job,” Reid said. “This will be a violent transfer of power, the most violent in U.S. history, if we are being honest.”
