‘You Won’t Have to Vote Anymore’: Trump Vows Elections Won’t Matter After A 2nd Term
Republican’s remarks seem like some of his most anti-democratic yet
In what seems like a brazen nod to autocracy, Donald Trump promised that, if returned to the White House, he would “have it fixed so good you’re not gonna have to vote” in the future.
Trump made that stunning vow in remarks to a gathering of the far-right organization, Turning Point Action.
The former president has been leaning into autocratic rhetoric for months now, although his remarks Friday seem to be among the boldest yet.
Along with running mate, Sen JD Vance of Ohio, Trump is having to pivot to running against the Democrats’s new presumptive presidential nominee, Vice President Kamala Harris, after President Biden dropped out of the race nearly a week ago.
“Get out and vote just this time. You won't have to do it anymore. Four more years it will be fixed. It’ll be fine. You won’t have to vote anymore...” Trump said. “In four years you don't have to vote again. We'll have it fixed so good you’re not gonna have to vote.”
Trump has continued to associate himself with some of the world’s most anti-democratic leaders, including Viktor Orban, of Hungary, Kim Jong Un of North Korea and Vladimir Putin of Russia.
