Young Activist Kicked By Marjorie Taylor Greene Urged To Press Charges
Right-wing congresswoman allegedly assaulted young woman in walking encounter
Social media is buzzing with users encouraging a young activist to press criminal assault charges against Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene, after the Georgia Republican can be seen on video deliberately kicking the 18-year-old progressive activist.
Videos posted to Twitter by Greene and the Gen Z activist group Voters of Tomorrow show Greene leaving a news conference Thursday while being questioned by activists about gun violence.
As Greene approaches a crosswalk, she appears to kick one of the activists, Marianna Pecora, who was walking in front of her.
“I’m the Deputy Communications Director @VotersTomorrow and our team is in DC this week to lobby for youth rights. All the members of Congress we’ve met with so far (both Rs and Ds) have been nothing but respectful — except for @RepMTG. She kicked me,” Pecora tweeted.
According to video Greene says, “Excuse me,” while at first appearing to step on Pecora’s foot.
“Excuse me,” Greene says again, this time after appearing to intentionally draw back her foot and aim for Pecora’s leg.
“Oh my God,” Pecora is seen saying in the videos.
Greene's spokesman, Nick Dyer, reportedly resorted to misrepresentation and dishonesty to try to cover for the congresswoman's behavior.
In a statement to The Washington Post, Dyer voiced objections to the description of the video and described a version of events unsubstantiated by video evidence.
By deadline, Pecora's tweet had attracted more than 2,200 comments, including many urging Pecora to press charges. (Note: This reporter was among them.)
“Can you press charges?” asked well-known Democrat and former supporter of Donald Trump's, David Weissman.
“Yes, she can. That was assault,” replied user Dwight Geer.
“Intentional kicking is a assault. Assault is a criminal act virtually everywhere. File a charge against her with the DC Police. If you do that, they are compelled to investigate it. Plenty of witnesses. Do it..!!” Geer added.
“It's on video, she kicked her twice, in the back of her leg, calf area!” another user, Chris Burke posted.
Not all commenters were sympathetic, however.
A user going by “science guy,” and only self-identifying from Greene's home state of Georgia responded, “grown men that promote litigation are low testosterone cowards, both the left and right”.
