Youngkin To Begin His Right Turn In Virginia On Day One
"Get ready for mass hospitalizations of children and now our air & waters will be dirtier and the youth and all the antivaxxers will be breathing that in along with covid!" Virginian tweets
Republican Glenn Youngkin was officially sworn in as Virginia’s 74th governor Saturday and he is beginning the right turn he wants to take the state on, immediately with a raft of new executive actions.
In all, Youngkin reportedly has 11 such actions teed up now that he's taken over from Democratic governor Ralph Northam.
Youngkin will ban the teaching of “critical race theory” in the Old Dominion, except that CRT was — in reality — never taught in Virginia schools.
Youngkin simply used it as a racist dog whistle in his ultimately successful bid for governor. Youngkin is the first Republican to be sworn in as Virginia governor in 12 years.
More grounded in reality, however, the new governor intends to eliminate a number of protections which had been put in place to protect Virginians in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
This includes ending the statewide school mask mandate and rescinding the vaccine mandate for state employees.
At least some Virginians were not pleased with this new direction in state government.
“@GlennYoungkin is #MakingVirginiaDirty Get ready for mass hospitalizations of children and now our air & waters will be dirtier and the youth and all the antivaxxers will be breathing that in along with covid! I don’t care about them but I do care about the children! IN P.O.,” tweeted a Virginian calling herself EmmyJo.
