‘Your Retirement Accounts Are Getting Throttled’: Fox News Turns On Trump
Markets are crashing under White House policies
Maybe now Donald Trump will listen, after Fox News turned on him Tuesday following the latest day in which US stock markets continued their long plunge.
Specifically, the right wing network’s White House correspondent Peter Doocy, unloaded on Trump on-air — complaining about the economic woes that Trump seems to be exacerbating daily.
Doocy’s surprising broadside came just shortly after Trump upped his tariffs on Canadian goods to a whopping 50 percent. Those are in addition to smaller tariffs on Chinese imports as well ongoing flirtation with more tariffs slapped on Canada and Mexico.
After promising during last year’s presidential campaign to bring down the cost of eggs and other essentials on “Day One,” Trump’s record on the US economy has been dismal in just the few weeks he’s been in office.
US stock markets just weeks ago were hitting new highs. But now all three are in the red for the year and dropping further nearly on a daily basis.
“We also expect the White House to try to reassure folks who are sitting there looking at their 401(k)s going down and down and down,” Doocy said on air, days after Trump would not deny that the country was heading for a recession.
“This is a White House that came in trying to get federal workers to retire by the hundreds of thousands,” Doocy continued, referencing DOGE’s massive cuts to the federal government’s workforce. “It’s tough to make the argument that you should retire if your retirement accounts are getting throttled, which is what is happening. So we expect—we hope—for answers to all of these curiosities any minute.”
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt responded with an upbeat answer — but one free of any specifics.
Leavitt struck a tone of optimism in response.
“There’s great indication to be optimistic about where the economy stands,” Leavitt said. “And the American people, executives, investors and most importantly workers should bet on President Trump.”
